Our tips for optimising brain and body

The world is slowly emerging from the covid-19 lockdown – which, for many, has meant months of isolation, poor diet, a lack of physical activity and over-indulgence in substances such as alcohol. As a result, your brain and body are likely ‘running on empty’, potentially affecting everything from your day-to-day mood, to your quality of sleep, to your performance at work.

At NADclinic, human health and performance is our top priority. For years, we’ve pioneered NAD+ IV drip therapy, which has benefits for sleep and energy, immunity, detox, and more. Now that the world is embarking on the ‘new normal’, it makes sense to reflect on those small changes you can make to your life that will make a big difference to your health and wellness – whether during the age of coronavirus, or beyond.

1. Be mindful of diet

Too much sugar can actually make you sluggish, while excessive alcohol intake and drug use can cause damage to the brain and liver. Poor diet can also affect your mood, performance and general state of health – so ensuring you get the right amount of vitamins, minerals and nutrients for your body shape and size is important. Our IV drip therapy is tailored to you and your unique needs, as a blood test helps identify where you need a boost. Best of all, you can have repeat sessions of most of our treatments, ensuring you optimise your intake for weeks to come.

2. Exercise little and often

‘Little and often’ is a great mantra for lots of things in life – not least when it comes to exercise. The NHS recommends daily activity, as well as reducing time spent sitting and lying down. Strengthening exercises are suggested on at least 2 days per week, with either 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of high-intensity exercise each week. If you need convincing, then take note: research shows that exercise has huge health and wellness benefits, from boosting mood, to improving sleep and increasing lifespan.

3. Flex your brain

We often say that your brain is the best tool at your disposal. If it’s optimised, you can work faster, smarter and more accurately, saving time and money, performing at your peak, and helping smash goals in both your personal and working life. Great ways to flex your brain include:

  • Complete a daily puzzle – Sudoku and cryptic crosswords are ideal – quick, easy, but with some problem-solving involved.
  • Try a brain game – challenge key areas of the brain, such as reaction time.
  • Train your memory – whether it’s remembering how to recreate that great dinner you made last week, or memorising your speech at your business’s next keynote.
  • Swap hands – instead of using your dominant hand, try doing an activity with the other hand instead.
  • Learn a new skill – dabble in a new language or pick up an instrument.
