Covid-19 infections are on the increase, with local lockdowns aiming to combat and contain the spread of the pandemic. Worse, a national lockdown hasn’t been completely ruled out – so with many uncertain about the future, and lockdowns (to some degree) almost guaranteed, preparedness can make all the difference.
There’s no denying that the UK-wide lockdown has affected individuals’ mental health to an enormous degree. Parents are struggling to balance work and life, businesses have been forced into cut-backs and closures, and substance addiction is rife (both through relapsing, and fresh new cases).
At NADclinic, we consider ourselves to have a social responsibility, harnessing the power and potential of our miracle molecule, NAD+ in our specially-formulated IV drips and vitamin injections. Knowing that these are uncertain and unprecedented times, we wanted to share our secrets for surviving a second lockdown, while thriving with the power of NAD+.
1. Cement a social support network
Socialising can be difficult at the best of times, especially with busy and fulfilling lives. But with lockdown thrusting the ‘diseases’ of isolation and loneliness upon us – particularly through quarantine and shielding – it’s more important than ever to be in touch with friends, family and healthcare professionals (as required). While some of this inevitably has to take place in the digital sphere through phone calls, zoom conversations and virtual pub quizzes, why not reach out to friends with a thoughtful care package in the post, or some old-fashioned letter-writing?
If you find yourself seriously struggling, don’t worry. In April, the government announced a £750m fund for charities affected by covid-19, which can offer aid during these dark times. This includes money towards victims’ charities, advisory bodies such as Citizens Advice, and even institutions, such as hospices. It can also help to practice mindfulness, keep a diary, and use exercise as a way to boost positive hormones, such as endorphins.
2. Find an outlet
Furlough is being increasingly phased out, and job losses are set to soar as sectors reach breaking point. Whether new financial packages are announced to buoy employees who are temporarily without work, or you find yourself out of a job altogether, it’s good to flex your physical and mental muscles to stop the stagnation. This could range from a simple walk everyday, to discovering a new hobby, to taking time to study a subject of interest – especially if it can get you ahead for your career when the pandemic blows over.
3. Shop smart
Advocate for stocking up, not stockpiling, and shop smart – that is to say, don’t wait until you’ve run out of something to try and find it in your supermarket, but equally, don’t grab several packs of something if one will do the job. It can help to make a list of what you’re running out of ahead of time, or to buy certain household essentials (such as toilet paper or kitchen roll) on a regular basis. Online deliveries can also help.
