Bust the fat build up this summer

With summer just around the corner, many people are looking for additional ways to speed up their fat loss. Whether you’re looking to drop some pounds before a holiday or you want to truly showcase the effort you’ve been putting into the gym, here are some ways you can bust the fat build up this summer and look your very best.

Reduce your rest periods

If you’re lifting heavy weights you’re probably resting for around 2-3 minutes between sets. And you’re not wrong to do so. This rest time is ideal for restoring muscle ATP so that you can lift as heavy as possible. But if you want to boost fat loss, it’s more beneficial to rest only 30 to 45 seconds between sets. This forces the cardiovascular system to work harder and will help burn more calories through an increased metabolism.

Nail your nutrition

To drop fat you need to be in a calorie deficit. So make sure you nail your nutrition. Go online and work out your BMR and TDEE to see how many calories you need to eat to lose weight and use an app such as My Fitness Pal to track what you’re eating every day. One of the main reasons people don’t lose weight is because they “guesstimate” what they’re eating and are often eating too many calories without realising. 

Focus on compound movements

Shifting your workout focus to multi-joint, compound exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bent rows, bench presses and pull-ups will allow you to burn far more calories and stimulate more fat-incinerating natural hormones than if you stick to resistance machines.

Introduce cardio

If you’re not doing any cardio – start now. Both HIIT and steady state cardio are beneficial for fat loss so make sure you’ve got both types in there to really see results.
