What are the consequences of low NAD+?

If you regularly read our blog or follow us on social media then by now you’ll be aware that we’re pretty obsessed with NAD+ and what it can do for our body. We’ve made NAD+ our life’s work simply because we know how this little-known molecule can benefit us in both the short and long term. It’s why we set up our clinic and it’s why we love introducing new people to our revolutionary NAD+ infusions.

But while we’re always promoting the benefits of boosting your NAD+ levels, we thought we should look at what the consequences are of having low NAD+ levels and how it will affect you.

Premature ageing

It’s a natural part of life that everyone ages. But the rate at which you age doesn’t have to be set in stone. NAD+ plays a huge role in our cellular health, and in turn, how quickly we age. Free radicals cause something called oxidative stress in our body which damages our cells, and if we don’t have enough antioxidants (which NAD+ is one of) in our body to counteract them, these free radicals are left unchecked and cause more and more damage which results in premature ageing.

Hypoxia symptoms

Low NAD+ is called “pseudohypoxia” because the body sets in motion some of the same responses to low NAD+ that’s caused by low oxygen, even if you have adequate oxygen levels.

Skin damage

Whilst everyone should wear sunscreen if they’re out in the sun for longer than 10 minutes, having low NAD+ levels makes you much more likely to burn in the sun. This of course can cause the skin to look older prematurely but also increases your chance of developing skin cancer.

Slow metabolism

A slow metabolism means your body burns fewer calories at rest and during activity and therefore you have to eat less to avoid becoming overweight. NAD+ activation of sirtuins clearly turns on genes that not only improve metabolism and help with weight loss, but that also reduce LDL cholesterol.

Fatigue

Low NAD+ levels can leave you feeling both mentally and physically fatigued. This is because levels of NAD+ largely control the “redox potential” because NAD+ has the ability to acquire electrons. The higher the redox potential of the cell, the better the mitochondria work.

Low NAD+ levels could also be linked to worsening symptoms in those with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.

NAD+ Infusions

A simple yet effective way of increasing your NAD+ levels is with a NAD+ infusion. Our NAD+ infusions are a type of IV therapy that harnesses the power of NAD+ and delivers it to your body in a quick and convenient way.

We have a range of NAD+ IV infusions that are tailored slightly to your needs. Each IV infusion is filled with essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids, plus NAD+ of course, to leave you feeling revitalised and ready to take on the world. Whether you’re looking for an energy boost because you work long hours, an immune system kick start to help fight off bugs and viruses, or you’re looking for a more aesthetic result, we have the bespoke IV infusion to help you achieve your goals.
