Can glutathione deficiency lead to more serious COVID side effects?

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, researchers, scientists and doctors have been working to find out what makes some people more susceptible to severe complications, longer term symptoms and even death, than others.

And research into the role glutathione has within the body has shown strong links between glutathione levels and how serious COVID-19 affects an individual. The research suggests that low levels of glutathione could be one of the reasons people suffer severe symptoms and even death after contracting COVID-19.

Glutathione and COVID mortality risk factors

Early on in the pandemic it was discovered that those most likely to suffer severe COVID symptoms and even death, were those that were:

  • Aged 65 and over (especially those 80 years +)
  • Clinically obese
  • Already suffering from underlying health issues such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer
  • Smokers
  • Men

What’s interesting about this is that the same groups of people are also those with naturally lower levels of glutathione. This seems to confirm the link between glutathione deficiency and serious COVID side effects.

Glutathione and vitamin D

In the early days of the pandemic, vitamin D deficiency was posed as being responsible for severe manifestations and death in COVID-19 patients. And that may be true. However, what’s interesting is that research has reported that glutathione levels positively correlate with active vitamin D.

What this means is that glutathione is essential for the control of the body’s vitamin D biosynthesis and demonstrates potential benefits of glutathione therapy in reducing the deficiency of vitamin D. Taken together, these findings suggest that glutathione deficiency rather than vitamin D deficiency is the primary cause of the manifestation of severe COVID-19 and increased risk of mortality.

Glutathione push injection

From the research done so far, it seems like a sensible approach to lessening the severity of COVID symptoms would be to increase glutathione levels within the body. At NADclinic, if you’re looking to boost your health and protect yourself from COVID, we offer a NAD+ glutathione push injection. An injection is the most effective and direct way to get more glutathione into your system. This powerful antioxidant injection also has many other health benefits outside of COVID-19. An increase in glutathione can help to:

  • Slow down the ageing process
  • Reduce muscle and joint discomfort
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Detoxify the liver and cells
  • Improve mental focus and clarity
  • Improve sleep
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve skin
  • Improve athletic performance and recovery
